Vasectomy

A vasectomy is a brief outpatient procedure and one of the most reliable forms of permanent contraception. The decision deserves a real conversation; the procedure itself is simpler than most men expect.

The decision

A vasectomy should be treated as permanent — that is its point. The consult covers how the procedure works, recovery, effectiveness, and the questions worth settling beforehand. It is a conversation, not a sales pitch; men who are unsure are told to take their time.

The procedure

Depending on your surgeon, the vasectomy is done either in the office under local anesthesia — you're awake, and it's over quickly — or at Cape Cod Hospital under sedation. Which setting applies to you depends on your surgeon: ask at your consult, and your appointment confirmation will say. Either way it's a brief outpatient procedure. Discomfort is short-lived, most men are back to desk work in a day or two, and back to full activity within about a week.

Afterward

A vasectomy is not effective immediately — a follow-up semen test confirms success before you rely on it. We schedule that check as part of the process, so nothing is left to assumption.
