Bladder Tumor Resection (TURBT)

Transurethral bladder tumor resection removes a tumor from the bladder using a small telescopic instrument passed through the urethra — no incision. Performed at the hospital, usually with no overnight stay.

After the hospital

  • You may have a catheter for 2–4 days to drain the bladder. The office will call to schedule its removal, done in the office.
  • Your bladder can take several weeks to heal, and you may see blood in your urine during that time. If so, increase fluids (especially water) and rest.
  • Avoid heavy physical activity, heavy lifting, and straining for 2–3 weeks. Avoid constipation — a stool softener may help.
